do not try this at home

I ask you, as you look at this page from a mother's handbook from years past, which of these stunts might be encouraged today? Oh, but don't they look fun? I especially love the stairs fashioned into a sliding board.

One of our favorite things to do as children was to sit on the top stair and slide down each step as fast as we could on our bottoms. My mother would freak out each time we did this but my brother, sisters and I thought it terribly funny to go bump-bump-bumping along. Looking back, it seems we were insane.

Our favorite toy as children was a wooden board! My mom started us out with a long cutting board as a slide, and it progressed from there. We built bridges and all of these things, too! I can't wait to do them with my babies.

Our boys favourite toy at their Grandfather's house is a scaffolding pland and two house bricks.

Thanks for the great page and reminding us to let them go a little.

my sister and I used to get an old foam mattress and use that as a slide down the stairs - it went really, really fast so lucky there was a cupboard right opposite the foot of the stairs - something to slam our feet into! what horrid children we were!!

One of our favorite silly things to do as kids was to locate a grassy hill, lie down, and roll ourselves down the slope - the steeper, the better. Giggling or screaming all the way, and covered with grass at the bottom (not to mention bruises from hidden rocks along the way...),we were totally unaware of how dorky we looked. We even did this on the grassy hill right out in front of our church on Sunday mornings...oh, how my mom must have loved that, I am sure! When I saw this done in the movie 'The Princess Bride', I nearly fell out of my chair laughing!!!
